Back to School Book Sale August 4-7, 2011

Come to the Algonquin Farmer's Market at downtown Riverfront Park on Thursday, September 29th to see the library "road show"! Librarians and Friends of the Algonquin Area Library will sell some of our nicer book donations and dazzle you with what's available at your library. In Memoriam: Debbie Mulcahy

We are saddened to share with you that Algonquin Area Public Library District Vice President Debra Mulcahy passed on the night of June 1.  Debbie served the district through several terms and was highly valued by her peers on the Board of Trustees. She will be missed!

Summer Reading Program

Our annual Summer Reading Program for all ages runs until August 8, 2011. The theme this year is A Midsummer Knight's Read! For full details about the program, refer to the May/June issue of the Library Leaves newsletter, which you can download here.

Happy 90th birthday, AAPLD!

On February 23, 1921 the Algonquin Public Library opened for business inside Village Hall.  Founded by the Algonquin Women's Club, the library opened with 265 books on its shelves, all of which were donated by the community and collected in a child's wagon by members of the Women's Club.  The original library hours were Monday and Friday 2-5pm and 7-9pm.  We sure have come a long way!  Thanks for all of your support through the years.  Here's to the next 90!      

Museum Adventure Pass Program

The Macy's Museum Adventure Pass program is now featured in the Youth Services Department  for Algonquin Area Library cardholders only! Four passes to each museum will be available for checkout at any one time and are good for one week; one pass per family. Learn a Language Online

Powerspeak Languages is a new way to learn a foreign language at your own pace! Choose from classes in Spanish, French, German, Mandarin Chinese, and ESL for Spanish speakers, with more to be added soon! To access Powerspeak Languages from home, click the Find It Online button on the side of our homepage and choose Online Learning Resources. This special resource is available to Algonquin Area Library card holders only.

We're a Top 10 Library for 2010!

Hennen's American Public Library Ratings, a respected national rating index, has placed the Algonquin Area Public Library in the Top Ten for our population-served size group! For more details on this particular honor and the ratings criteria involved, pay a visit to the HAPLR webpage!

"Ticket to Read: Book a Trip!" Children, teens and adults can now sign up for our ever-popular Summer Reading Program and become eligible for some exciting prize drawings! Summer Reading runs through August 9, 2010.
