Horton Halfpott, or, The Fiendish Mystery of Smugwick Manor, or, The Loosening of M'Lady Luggertuck's Corset
by Tom AnglebergerThis book begins, "There are so many exciting things in this book." I disagree. It should have said that there are so many hysterical things in this book. You may recognize Angleberger's Origami Yoda books and his quirky sense of humor. This book stands on its own, and it would be difficult to find others like it. From the title to the last page it is a farcical game of words. You will find an endless supply of characters to laugh at/with. My favorites include the shipless pirates and the pompous, professional, private investigator, Portnoy St. Pomfrey. Root for the hapless Horton as he struggles to unravel the mysteries of M'Lady's corset, Napoleon's head, and the missing Lump. The icing on this cake - the book's cover glows in the dark.
